According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2021 to 2o22 the data about male caregivers is on the rise again. Secondary teachers went from 40.5% to 41.5% in all races, African American, Asian American and Latino. The Child Care Workers went from 5.3% to 5.7% beginning to pre-pandemic shutdown when levels reached above 6% for first time since 1970s.
The numbers of Secondary teachers went from 940,000 to 1,000,000 despite major retirement and leaving the profession. Child Care Workers went from 974,000 to 1,007,000 an increase in the workforce.
Bryan G. Nelson, Director of MenTeach observed, “If the pandemic and shutdown had not happened we would have had growth of male teachers unheard for 50 years since the 1970s. I believe that men will return and surpass the percentage we had in the past.”
