MenTeach publishes the numbers and percentages of men working with children from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics.
You can look at the data over the year here: MenTeach.org
The numbers of Child Care Workers went down significantly: from a high of 1,036,00 to 984,000. A first decrease since 2021. The Child Care Workforce has remained above one million for many years (2002). We also noticed that the percentage of went back down to 5.6% in 2024 versus 6.2% in 2023. We extrapolated the percentage of African-American, Asian and Latino male teachers since BLS does not track these identity groups by gender. It’s worth noting that these identity groups percentages all increased.
The numbers of Teacher Assistants increased but the percentages of men decreased. Again the percentages of all identity groups increased.
The numbers of Preschool & Kindergarten teachers decreased as did the percentages of men. Again the identity groups percentages increased with Asian group went from 3.2% in 2023 to 4.1% in 2024, a significant increase.
There was an increase in 2024 of Elementary & Middle School teachers and the percentage of men over 2023. All identity groups decreased in 2024.
Finally, the Secondary School teachers decreased as did the men in 2024. All identity groups went down except the Asian group.
