I am a retired Federal analyst. I retired at 55 with 32.5 years service (counting an Army stint). When I mentioned to a teacher friend/golfing buddy that I needed something to do, he suggested teaching school. Not wanting to work full time, I applied for a substitute teacher position and was hired.

As a sub, I can work my own schedule, as much or as little as I like, so It’s a perfect fit for me. I’ve been at it for five years now. I work in grades 1-4 every day, because I want to, not because I have to. The kids seem to love me and I love them. It’s like having four hundred grandkids. Getting all those hugs every morning makes it fun to get up and go to work.

I love it and wish I had done it 40 years sooner.
