1) Boys look to male teachers for guidance
Four years ago, Principal Duncan Smith noticed a sizable percentage of the male students at Frankford Elementary School were having discipline problems. The boys who were continually sent to his office shared one characteristic, he said. They were often from “broken homes” with no male role model. Now, with six male faculty members and a mentoring program dedicated to teaching life skills to boys on the cusp of puberty, Smith said much of the destructive behavior that plagued his students has disappeared. If you visit Duc Tho town’s nursery school you might see a man carefully spoon-feeding children and covering them with blankets. He is Luong Xuan Phong, believed to be the only male nursery school teacher in Vietnam. Phong did not choose the career. He was trained instead as a musician. After the training course, he ended up in Military Zone No 4. However, soon he had to move to another group after the ensemble decided that it no longer needed him. 6) Can men really work with toddlers?
Hardly any men work as early years carers, and more are wanted. But can they cope with the glitter, paint and mashed potato?
Apparently, I didn’t miss a food fight. This is just what lunch for a group of two and three-year-olds is like. Peas and things, strewn across the floor. Matter everywhere, which may be potato. The kids look well-fed and content, so a fair amount of it must have gone inside, too. They must use very big bowls.

9) Ideas for workshops?
A professor was considering offering a workshop this summer and wanted your feedback: I am designing a summer workshop. The working title is ‘Supporting Males in Schools: Students, Teachers/Administrators, Fathers.’ The workshop will be over a period of days for a total of 11 clock hours plus an assignment; resulting in a one hour college credit.
