Dr. Garry Jones, Werklund sessional instructor, offers a series about, and for, men in teaching. Drawing on extensive research, invited guests and personal experience, he will lead participants through conversations about the complex lives of male teachers, with a focus on elementary and early childhood teachers. This is open to pre-service teachers, university instructors and practicing teachers.

1.     Tuesday September 23 2025 Male teachers: endangered species?

Dr Garry Jones will provide an overview of his research about men who choose to teach. He will discuss the topics for the other sessions in the series. Guests: newly graduated beginning male teachers.

2.     Tuesday October 21 2025 Men teaching boys.

How do we best support boys in school? Tonight, we will discuss articles and hear from teachers who work with boys. Guests: Northpoint Boys School

3.     Tuesday November 18 2025 Are male teachers a role model?

This is one statement you will hear most often…. “You are a good role model”. But what kind of maleness do they want you to model? There are many different ideas about maleness.

4.     Tues December 2 2025   Time for conversations and questions.
